Recommended material: woven type of fabrics for skirts and trousers
Prepare those part from fabric: 2x front, 2 back, 2x whole pocket, 2x front pocket, 2x unlined patch pocket, 1x front waistband, 1x back waistband, 2x zip opening facing.
Sew petershams on front and back pieces and press them flat to the fabric.
Serger all side on patch pocket.
Apply a piece of fusible interfacing along the upper pocket side.
Turn the top edge over the wrong side and sew the bottom edge in the front side.
Make a template from cardboard – without seam allowances.
Place the cardboard template on the wrong side of the pocket.
Press all edges over the template.
Tack through all other edges to secure.
Mark the pocket placement lines on the garment (back piece) with tailor´s tacks.
Place the completed pocket to the fabric, matching the corners with the tailor´s tacks. Pin in position.
machine stitch about 3 mm from the edge of the pocket.
reinforce the upper corners with the diagonal stitch.
Do the same with the second back piece.
Apply a piece of fusible interfacing along the pocket opening on the front section of the garment to strengthen.
Place a front pocket on a front piece of garment, face to face, match the pocket opening.
Sew along the pocket opening.
Clip the seam allowances in the corner.
Neaten the seam allowance on the garment.
Turn the pocket into the wrong side.
Place the whole pocket on the front pocket, right side to right side and pin int.
Sew the pocket seam and neaten it.
Do the same with other front pieces.
Fold the fabric along the fold line.
And make a pleat on front and back pieces.
Apply a piece of fusible interfacing on wrong sides of back pieces in place where the zip opening will be. Apply a piece of fusible interfacing on zip opening facing.
Neat the zip opening facing and crotch edge.
Place a zip on the right side of the back piece.
Tack the zip in place.
Sew the closest as possible to the zipper teeth.
Place a zip opening facing on the zip.
Sew it close to the zipper teeth.
Turn the facing into the wrong side and press.
Do the same with another side.
Neaten the side edges on front and back pieces
Sew front pieces and back pieces together in side seams.
Press seams open.
Sew an inside leg seam together.
Turn one leg on right and pull it into the second leg.
Sew the crotch seam.
If you are not able to sew to the zip, sew the little hole by hand.
Tack the pockets on the place.
Tack the pleats on place also.
It is the right time to check, how the culottes fit.
Apply a piece of fusible interfacing on both parts of the waistband.
Sew the waistband in one piece and pres the seams open.
Neaten one of the long edges.
Pin the waistband on culottes with no neaten edge, start in front center and match seams together.
Sew the waistband on culottes.
One edge will be longer than another, because of closing.
Fold the waistband in half, right side in.
And sew about 3 cm from the zip.
Remove surplus corner and turn the waistband to the right side.
Pres the waistband like in the pic below.
The the same with the second edge of waistband, sew close to the zip.
Cut the surplus corner and turn the waistband in the right side.
Tack the waistband.
machine stitch about 1 mm from the seam.
Neaten the bottom edge of culottes and turn up the hem at the crease. Hand stitches the edge into the wrong side.
Place a hook and eye and stitch around each circular end.
