How to sew pajama pants NIGHTY NIGHT

Péťa  ·  20.7.2021  ·  2 minutes of reading

I have another pattern and detailed photo instructions ready for you. This time it is a pattern for pajama pants in women's, men's, and children's sizes. Sewing is quite easy, so I can recommend this pattern to beginners.

The pattern

You can get this pattern here:

This set contains patterns for men's, women's, and children's pajama pants. All patterns are designed in a professional program for clothing pattern development and are available in the following sizes:

  • Women’s sizes: 32–60
  • Men’s sizes: 44–66
  • Children’s sizes: 92–164

The pattern is available in one size view (with stitching lines and seam allowances outlined) and in the classic view, where you can see all sizes at once - each size in a different color for better clarity. You can choose what works best for you. The advantage of the classic view (where all the sizes are shown) is that you can easily adjust your pattern to fit body types in between the chart sizes. One size view saves time during preparation - you do not have to think where and how much to add for the seams, because everything is already there.

Sewing instructions

Consult the size chart before printing and cutting your pattern. Also, check the length of the instep and shorten/lengthen your pants if necessary.

In this article, I will show you how to sew these simple pants really fast. If you don't like this quick method, you can do it the traditional way, which I described here:

Crotch, instep & side seams

Lay the back pieces on top of each other (face side to face side) and sew the back crotch seam. Do the same with the front pieces and sew the front crotch seam. Lay the front pieces on top of the back pieces (face side to face side) and sew the side seams and instep seams.

Clean the waistband with an overlocker (or zigzag stitch).

(I didn't have enough fabric so I had to improvise, that's why I sewed the back part of the waistband separately...)

Cuffs

Let's get the cuffs ready. I used pins to mark where the instep seams will be (transfer these marks from the paper pattern). I also marked the parts of the cuffs that will be on the front. Clean the upper edges of the cuffs with an overlocker (or zigzag stitch).

Sew the shorter sides of the cuffs, then fold the top 1 cm / 0.4" to the wrong side and iron the cuffs.

Pull free ends of thread chains under the loops when using a serger. Topstitch the upper edges of the cuffs.

Turn the pants inside out and insert the legs into the cuffs (the face side of the cuff touches the wrong side of the leg). Pin the cuffs in position. Sew the cuffs to the legs.

Turn the pants face side out and pull the cuffs out of the legs. Then fold the cuffs over the edge of the legs to their final position.

To keep the cuffs from sliding down, you can sew them to the legs all the way around, or attach them to the instep seam and side seam with several stitches.

Waist

Finally, sew the elastic band into the waistband. Measure the appropriate length of the band directly on your body and then sew the shorter sides of the band to form a loop. Fold the top edge of the pants over the band and use pins to fix it in this position.

Sew around the waistband to close the “tunnel” with the band inside. Be careful not to sew through the band itself.

And your pants are ready! :)
